How we test.
Why you can trust us.
Every verdict on GearVerdicts is earned, not assumed. We do not rewrite spec sheets or copy other sites. Here is exactly how our process works.
We buy every product ourselves.
GearVerdicts does not accept free review units from manufacturers. Every product reviewed on this site was purchased with our own money, from the same retailers available to you.
Why this matters:
When a reviewer receives a free product, there is an unconscious pressure to be positive. Negative reviews mean fewer free products in the future. By buying everything ourselves, we remove that bias entirely.
Minimum 7-day testing period.
We do not unbox a product, use it for an hour, and publish a verdict. Every product is tested for a minimum of seven days in real-world conditions.
For some categories, our testing period is longer. Robot vacuums are tested for two to four weeks across different floor types. Smart home devices are tested across multiple ecosystems to verify compatibility claims. Earbuds and headphones are tested during real calls, commutes, and workouts — not just music playback in a quiet room.
What we measure.
Each product category has specific criteria we evaluate. We do not use the same generic checklist for everything — a robot vacuum and a pair of earbuds require completely different testing approaches.
Our rating system.
We use a simple 10-point scale. Our overall score is NOT an average of sub-scores — it reflects our holistic verdict after living with the product, because sometimes a product with great specs still fails in daily use.
Updates and re-testing.
Tech products change. Firmware updates fix bugs. Prices drop. New competitors launch. We revisit and update our reviews every three to six months to ensure our verdicts remain accurate.
Every updated review is marked with the date of the most recent update so you always know how current our information is.
